Following is a summary of our Technical Specifications and Submission Guidelines for Asylum. If your video is professionally made you should already have the following technical details organised. If not, these guidelines might help.
If you have any queries about the technical specifications or submission details email us at asylumtv@asylumtv.com.
ASYLUM TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The tapes submitted must be in PAL format. We do not accept tapes in NTSC format. This is because we do not have the facilities to convert other format video tapes such as NTSC, to PAL, or other tape formats such as Betacam SP to our acceptable formats. So you must send them in PAL and in our acceptable tape formats only.
The tapes must be of a high technical standard; that is, with good quality sound that is clear and recorded at an acceptable volume without any dropouts, and also with good quality picture without any dropouts.
Your video must be recorded on one of our acceptable tape formats, which are "Mini-DV" and "Mini-DVCAM" and recorded or copied at the "SP" speed only. This is very important in order to maintain quality. You may also send the clip on Super VHS tape. You may also send a VHS or DVD preview copy, but the VHS copy is not good enough quality to put to air. We do not currently accept tapes recorded in Betacam, Betacam SP, Betacam Digital or 1” tape because we do not have the facilities to play these professional formats.
The copy you submit to us should not be more than second generation. Again, this is very important in order to maintain quality.
Your actual video tape and tape box must be clearly labelled with: Artist, Song Title, Duration, Copyright Owner of video, Songwriters names as listed with APRA, and Contact Details. Also list music publisher and record label, if any.
Please do not put your band or song title on the actual portion of the video that will be aired. We will add this to fit our format.
You should, however, put a leader on the tape PRIOR to the beginning of the video clip and countdown, that contains Artist, Song Title, Duration, Copyright Owner of video, Songwriters names as listed with APRA, music publisher and record label (if any), and Contact details.
Colourbars and tone recorded at 0db at the beginning are preferable, as is a ten second countdown that includes two seconds of black.
At the end of the music video ensure there is at least 10 seconds of black.
ASYLUM SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
By submitting your music video clip for consideration of airplay on Asylum you automatically give permission to record it onto the program and broadcast it.
Your video can not be any type of advertisement for a business, product or political campaign.
International independent artists may also submit their clip for airplay, but it must be in PAL format and not NTSC, and must be in one of our acceptable tape formats.
Please note that we do not post back video clips unless you include return postage. So if you don't, we assume that the video shall remain the property of Asylum, unless other arrangements are made with the producers to pick up the video. So if you would like your music video copy back then also send a stamped self-addressed envelope (with enough stamps on it to cover return postage). We do not return other promotional material. If overseas, send a self-addressed envelope and an international money order for AUD$15.00 to cover return postage and packaging.
We will try and notify you in advance, if possible, of when your clip will appear on Asylum, but can make no guarantees.
After sending your clip, follow up with an email or phone call to make sure we got it okay.
Submission of material does not necessary guarantee exposure on Asylum. The producers reserve the right not to include the video on Asylum for whatever reason.
